Terry - It's in our hands

Three Lions skipper calls for positive displays

England captain John Terry has called on his Three Lions squad to take control of their own fate as they prepare for their upcoming Euro 2012 qualifying double-header.

Fabio Capello's men will take on Bulgaria away on Friday evening ahead of a home clash against Wales next Tuesday, and will be hoping to take a maximum haul from the encounters to keep their spot at the top of Group G.

Chelsea defender Terry says England will head into the qualifiers with six points as their sole target.

Positive
"It's in our hands," he said in a news conference live on Sky Sports News. "In th
e way we perform and the way we play we must be very positive.

"In our minds we're coming here as a group of players to pick up three points.

"These next two games we must pick up six points and put ourselves in a very good position in the group.

"Clearly we've got an awful lot of talent within the squad. We must believe."

Terry knows England must step up following their disappointing 2-2 qualifying draw against Switzerland in June, when they were forced to recover from 2-0 down.

"I think the way we drew the game against the Swiss we all realised as players that we didn't play to our potential," he said.

"The second half was obviously very encouraging, to come back, but unfortunately we didn't go on and win the game."

Capello has named a host of emerging stars in his squad including Manchester United trio Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Tom Cleverley, and Terry has no concerns over how the youngsters will fit into the Three Lions set-up.

Assured
He added: "They've come into the Engalnd set-up and felt very comfortable and very assured of themselves as well and rightly so because they're huge talents and certainly for the present and future of the England side they've got a lot to give.

"If we do get ourselves to the Euros we can go there with some young players with an awful lot of games under their belts and a little bit more experience as well.

"That mixture of the young and the old that we always speak about, we could do very well by that."
